The stock of InterGlobe Aviation was seen under pressure on Tuesday following news that the airline regulatory has asked the company to ground its A320neo fleet of aircraft. Immediately after getting this directive, IndiGo - which at that time had 32 Neos - had grounded three Neos which had both engines of this specific variant. Indigo is both the largest current operator of the A320neo and the No. 1 customer.

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation Monday grounded the 11 A320 Neo aircraft following a mid-air scare. The IndiGo airlines also expressed regret after thousands of passengers who faced inconvenience during the immediate grounding. All defective components would be replaced by early June, requiring some planes to fly with one affected engine for nearly three more months. An airport official said the aircraft made the emergency landing at around 2200 hours. Not all of them are fitted with that particular series of Pratt & Whitney engines.

The decision on Monday left hundreds of passengers stranded at airports, PTI reported. "At IndiGo the safety and security of customers, crew and the aircraft is the top priority and can not be compromised at any time". An aircraft, on average, operates seven to eight trips a day and considering that 11 aircraft have been grounded, the number of cancelled flights could soar quickly besides the leading to cascading delays.

IndiGo announced on its website the cancellations of some 47 of its over 1000 daily flights across its domestic network for on Tuesday. "The flight crew chose to return back to Delhi", GoAir said in a statement.
