Windows "10 S" - the latest version of its flagship OS - was released in mid-2017 with an aim to provide a Windows experience that delivers predictable performance and quality through Microsoft-verified apps via the Microsoft Store.
Some of you may have seen a discussion around our plans for Windows 10 S on Twitter today, and given some additional questions I've received, I thought it might be helpful to share more about our plans with Windows 10 S. This week, Microsoft Windows Corporate VP Joe Belfioreaddressed those rumors with a blog post.
We're also waiting to hear what this means for antivirus and security apps, which will reportedly also run in S Mode, despite being Win32.exe files. Belfiore does not explicitly say whether Microsoft and its partners will stop selling machines with the old, separate version of Windows 10 S installed, nor does he offer a specific date for the release of the functionally-equivalent S Mode to Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro users. That should clear up any confusion around unlocking the full version of Windows, and now it is up to PC makers to decide whether to sell machines with S Mode enabled or not. Our partners have brought to market more than 20 devices with Windows 10 S enabled. These rumors turned out to be false as Belfiore confirmed in his blog post. The next version of Windows 10 is codenamed RS4, or Redstone 4, and the version after that is RS5, or Redstone 5.
NCAA BASKETBALL: Tourney teams to be revealed early Will MSU or MI open the NCAA Tournament in Detroit? This then determines a Quadrant one win or loss and so on and so forth. That's why the Vols were keeping their eyes focused on bigger prizes even as they celebrated their SEC title.
"If a customer does want to switch out of S mode, they will be able to do so at no charge, regardless of edition", Belfiore stated.
Microsoft is scheduled to integrate S Mode in Windows 10. Previously, if users wanted to switch from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro, they would have to pay $49, as pointed out by ZDNet. Windows 10 Enterprise will also be possible to activate this feature.
