Shooter takes three hostages at California veterans' home

The Veterans Home posted on their Facebook page that emergency response protocols were activated and they are working with law enforcement.

Jan Thornton of Vallejo is among hundreds of relatives anxious about their loved ones at a Northern California veterans home that was locked down after reports of an active shooter.

The California Highway Patrol was responding on Friday to an incident at a veterans' home in Napa Valley after local media said there were reports of shots fired and a hostage situation. CHP and Napa County fire officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Pathway Home is a privately run program on the veteran home's grounds, in the wealthy Napa Valley town of Yountville.

The state Veterans Affairs department says the home that opened in 1984 is the nation's largest veterans home, with about 1,000 elderly and disabled residents.
