Apple to Take on Bose and Sony's Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones This Year [Report]

If the latest reports are to be believed, Apple is looking at introducing noise-canceling, over-the-ear headphones that rival headsets from established brands including Bose and its own Beats by Dre brand. Although the plans could change, Apple is reportedly targeting a release that could be "as early as the end of this year".

Apple-owned Beats now sells high-end on-ear headphones that you can find inside the company's own retail spaces, however, a recent report suggested that Apple is developing its own-brand high-end headphones that it's going to launch later this year. The headphones will sit next to Apple's HomePod speaker which was released earlier this year. The news was first reported last week in a KGI Securities note that suggested the headphones were on the way.

Work on this product has been on-and-off over the past year, according to the report, with the company going through multiple redesigns of the product.

Mudslide Fears Prompt Mandatory Evacuations for Montecito, Other Burn Areas
The storm will continue to bring showers to Southern California into Saturday according to forecasters. Other areas impacted by the order were Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria.

So far, the AirPods have been a key driver of newfound success for Apple's Other Products segment. A pair of well-designed, high-end headphones, with noise-canceling technology and Siri built-in, could be enough to convince Apple loyalists to drop yet more cash on the company.

Apple's headphone ambitions put it in a collision course with already-popular brands like Sony, Samsung, and Sony - and Apple's own Beats by Dre. Athlete-oriented wireless Beats earphones still seem to be selling well despite the popularity of AirPods. However, given the strength of the Beats headphone name, the company will likely keep that brand while developing a different new one for the new headphones.

No word as yet on how much these headphones will cost.
