The specs help the stallion hit 100km/h in a claimed 2.85 seconds before reaching a top speed in excess of 340km/h.

As you'd expect the 488 Pista is no slouch with it only needing 2.85 seconds to reach 62 miles per hour and 7.6 seconds to reach 124 miles per hour.

Ferrari has taken the wraps off its new track-focused 488 Pista supercar, following weeks of leaked images - and it is set to be a direct rival to race-derived models including the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and the Lamborghini Huracan Performante.

Indeed, the aerodynamic changes to the 488 Pista are extreme, with the new scalloped bonnet showing hefty modification changes and Ferrari adopting modified versions of the front and rear splitters used on its 488 GTE race vehicle that won the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Ferrari officially unveiled 2018 488 Pista which comes as a successor to the 458 Speciale.

Official press images of the new and potentially final 488 model were posted on Ferrari Chat and appear legitimate, given they replicate details in teaser images shared by Ferrari on its own Facebook page last week. Additionally, it features the most powerful V8 by Ferrari that makes 721PS at 8,000rpm and generates a meaty 770Nm at 3,000 rpm. No, we are not referring to the Indian nickname of Pistachio, rather, the Pista in this context refers to "track" in Italian. For comparison, the 488 GTB "only" produces 660 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. The 488 Pista has a dry weight of 2,821 pounds, which is roughly a 200-pound savings over the 488 GTB (thanks in part to carbon fiber body panels). The bodywork's revisions include using the front and rear diffusers from the 488 GTE racing auto, there are lighter wheels and carbon-fibre has been used extensively throughout the vehicle to help reduce weight. The Ferrari 488 Pista carries on this tradition, building upon development carries out through Ferrari's involvement with the FIA World Endurance Championship. Of course Ferrari's latest electronic go-fast goodies are also included with specially adapted Side-Slip Angle Control systems (SSC), limited slip differentials (E-Diff3) and adjustable magnetorheological dampers (SCM). That's also rumoured to be the new 488's power figure, though we'll wait to see what Ferrari says on that account. Trick software (including a function that adjusts the pressure of the brake calipers) helps drivers make the most of the Pista's power regardless of their skill level behind the wheel.

It'll be on display at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
