Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill slammed half-centuries as New Zealand went on to amass 196 for five and later went on to defend the total by 12 runs in the fourth Twenty20 worldwide against England in Wellington to register their maiden win in the ongoing Tri-Series.

Stand-in England skipper Jos Buttler rued fine margins after his side slumped to their third successive Twenty20 defeat against New Zealand, leaving their chances of reaching the tri-series final in serious doubt.

Half-centuries from Martin Guptill (65) and Kane Williamson (72), and their 82-run stand for the second wicket, helped the hosts post 196 for 5 on being put in.

New Zealand's move to shore up the batting also paid off as former Hong Kong worldwide Mark Chapman made a useful cameo of 20 off 13 on his New Zealand debut.

Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santer and Trent Boult then restricted England to 184-9, as Dawid Malan (59) and Alex Hales (47) lacked the support they needed to stage a meaningful run chase. They face New Zealand in Hamilton on Sunday, two days after the Black Caps tackle Australia, who have already qualified for the final.

England's woes in this Trans-Tasman T20 Tri-series continue.

Captain Kane Williamson led from the front with an innings of 72 off 46 balls against England.

Indian PM makes historic visit to Palestine

Tim Southee has now become the leading wicket taker from New Zealand.

Not to forget the other debutant, wicketkeeper Tim Seifert who had time to bang a couple of sixes too, finishing on 14 off six balls.

Next ball, Colin de Grandhomme was brilliantly caught by Chris Jordan off the same bowler.

That man Williamson, again, pounced in the field and his direct hit caught James Vince short, after a diving Santner had put down a tough one in the deep off Malan. We got plenty in the power play and there partnerships throughout. Another early wicket was elusive then and New Zealand's two best players were able to take the game away from the tourists.

England captain Buttler said: "It was maybe ten to 15 runs too many. and we didn't bowl as well as we could have". We did not get the cameos in the middle either.

"You always want more runs and you always train hard to contribute as much as you can to a team performance", he said. "[Need a favour from Australia?] That's what we need now, so we'll wait and see what happens".

"They were tough fielding conditions but the way they bowled at the death, they stepped up to the mark today".
