Haiti president decries “violation of basic human decency”

Ms Driver is the first celebrity to leave the worldwide charity, which is headquartered in Oxford, UK, since an investigation by a British newspaper revealed senior Oxfam staff had paid prostitutes for sex in earthquake-hit Haiti in 2011.

Oxfam's Deputy Chief Executive Penny Lawrence resigned on Monday over the handling of the scandal and the United Kingdom government threatened to cut funding to the charity's projects.

However, Minnie plans to continue charity work outside of the umbrella of Oxfam, concluding, "Though it is unfortunate that after 20 years I am no longer able to advocate and defend through this specific framework, social and economic injustice is more globally prevalent than ever".

"I told Oxfam they must now demonstrate the moral leadership necessary to address this scandal, rebuild the trust of the British public, their staff and the people they aim to help, and deliver progress on these assurances", she added in a statement.

The actress added that she would not let the organisation's "abhorrent mistakes" stop her from participating in global charity work.

"Oxfam was more concerned about the charity's reputation than the people who were exploited".

Oxfam has said that as a result of its internal investigation in 2011, four people were dismissed, and three others - including the Haiti country director who had previously held the same role in Chad - had resigned.

Oxfam sex scandal: Sacked staff found new aid job in Bangladesh
However, the minister said Oxfam did "absolutely the wrong thing" by not reporting the detail of the incidents to the government. Meanwhile, Oxfam is facing further allegations, reported in the Observer , that its staff used prostitutes in Chad in 2006.

On Monday Oxfam's deputy chief executive Penny Lawrence resigned over the scandal, saying she took full responsibility for what had happened under her watch, while apologising for the "harm and distress" caused.

Mordaunt is due to give a speech to representatives from worldwide aid agencies and ministers from over 20 countries at the Agenda 2030 for Children: End Violence Solutions Summit. "And compels us to take action".

"From that conversation I had with Oxfam Quebec and Oxfam Canada on their procedures or their processes, I was very satisfied with what I heard", Ms. Bibeau said an interview Tuesday. While the accusations go back to 2011, it has been in the news after the Times published a report about it on February 9.

Ms. Bibeau said the government acknowledges the potential for sexual exploitation in humanitarian crises and ensures there is a strict code of conduct in place when it agrees to provide an aid group with Canadian funding.

"From our perspective here in Australia, we've had a small number of donors who have contacted us and who have indicated they will be stopping their donations", Oxfam Australia chief Helen Szoke said.

Priti Patel told Nick she wouldn't donate to Oxfam.

In a statement, Oxfam denied providing positive references for those implicated, and said they were likely provided on an individual capacity.
