An 18-month-old boy with Down syndrome has been named by baby food maker Gerber as its "Spokesbaby" for 2018, the company said on Wednesday, an action hailed by advocates for people with the genetic condition.

The victor of Gerber's annual photo search, which began in 2010, was revealed on NBC's "Today Show" on Wednesday morning.

Lucas Warren, 18-month-old baby from Dalton, Georgia, has been declared the victor of the annual Gerber Baby Photo Search.

Watch the twisty Super Bowl trailer for Westworld season 2
It's been far too long since we had Westworld in our lives-the first season finale aired way back in December 2016. But there are a few moments that probably give us a hint of what to expect in Season 2.

The victor of the Gerber Baby 2018 photo contest is Lucas Warren.

Lucas and his family live in Dayton, OH.

For 91 years the company, a giant player in the market, featured a charcoal sketch of an infant that became known as the Gerber Baby and was seen as an ideal. The boy has Down syndrome - the first to earn the coveted honor.

Lucas' mom says she didn't think much about it when she entered him.

Lucas's mother hoped that the spotlight on her child could "sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world".
