Mets pull Todd Frazier out of free agency forĀ $17M

Frazier, 31, spent time between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees last season. In 81 games, the White Sox slugger only managed to hit 16 home runs while driving in just 44 runs, and hitting a paltry.207.

The Yankees acquired Frazier in the same July trade that also brought relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle over from the White Sox.

It's a pay cut for Frazier, who earned $20.25 million over the past two seasons, continuing the trend this winter of depressed free-agent values.

Frazier, a two-time All-Star, is surehanded at third base, and his fielding saved about 10 extra runs over an average fielder a year ago, according to Baseball Reference. However, a slow free agent market and little need for a third baseman throughout the league hurt Frazier.

Wright is a seven-time All-Star and is guaranteed $47 million by the Mets over the next three seasons. Wright has no intention of retiring right now and is hopeful that he can play this season in some capacity.

Windows 10 Finally Overtakes Windows 7: Why Did It Take So Long?
Microsoft argues that cutting off support for older operating systems will help coordinate updates between Office and Windows. Organizations that want support for the new version of Office on Windows 7 or 8 .1 must buy a subscription to Office 365 .

"You can never fully dismiss the fact that David may be back". Frazier has 82 career starts at first base, so he has some experience at the position. Baseball-Reference estimated that Mets third basemen were a combined 0.2 wins above replacement, mainly due to the hot bat of Cabrera once he agreed to shift over from second base; he finished the year with a modest 1.1 WAR, while Flores (-0.2 WAR) and Reyes (-0.6) were both underwater.

The move also means Asdrubal Cabrera is likely to be New York's projected starter at second base this season, rather than third.

The best bet on the Mets now is that they're pretty much done making big moves this offseason. It's certainly something that benefits the Mets - they still could sign a middle infielder or add bullpen help - but has raised the hackles of agents and players.

Moving from the Bronx to Queens, Frazier will likely provide another veteran leadership role with the Mets, just as he did with the Yankees.
