Zuma's fate to be decided today – Report
The report stated that ANC deputy president David Mabuza will lead a delegation to Zuma's official residence in Pretoria.
Meanwhile‚ SowetanLIVE reported that ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa and the other top five party leaders are to hold an urgent meeting with Zuma on Sunday to tell him to step down.
South Africa's Jacob Zuma faces a no-confidence vote this month, a new attempt to unseat the president by opponents emboldened by splits within his own party. The ANC has the power to recall President Zuma from his duties as president of the country before the SONA address and send a clear signal that it is embarking on a new path - a path of true leadership, in tune with the needs of the people, and committed to good governance and the end of state capture.
"The majority of parliament is going to say that Jacob Zuma will not be the president of South Africa because the biggest sentiment, even in the ANC, is saying that Jacob Zuma can not continue as president", EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu told eNCA television. While Zuma's second and final term is only due to end next year, his immersion in a succession of scandals has eroded support for the ANC and many with the party's ranks want him to go before he delivers the annual state-of-the-nation address on February 8.
Opposition parties have been calling on the ANC to remove the 75-year-old president, whose time in office has been marred by several allegations of corruption. They also fear his continued stay could cost the party in the upcoming 2019 general elections.
He has survived several no-confidence votes during his rule thanks to loyal voting by ANC lawmakers, who form a strong parliamentary majority. Although he retains the support of a faction within the ANC, he no longer holds a top post.
A group of African National Congress members convened under the banner "defend Luthuli House" says President Zuma's removal is a matter of urgency.
ANC party spokespersons were not available for to comment.
