Democrats Escalate Counterattacks As Release Of GOP Snooping Memo Draws Nearer

Trump To GOP Congressman On Release Of FISA Memo It’s Going To Happen 100 Percent Sure

The official told reporters traveling Thursday with the president that White House officials have been studying the Nunes-crafted memo to make sure "it doesn't give away too much in terms of classification".

"This is created to impugn the credibility of the FBI, to undermine the investigation, to give the president additional fodder to attack the investigation", Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said on CBS This Morning.

Mr. Schiff and other Democrats on the Intelligence Committee drafted their own memo, a rebuttal which they say adds context to the Republican document.

"The "dossier" compiled by Christopher Steele (Steele dossier) on behalf of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Hillary Clinton campaign formed an essential part of the Carter Page FISA application", the memo alleges, referring to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

The Democrats' memo charges that the Nunes memo is an attempt to help the White House with the Russian Federation investigation.

The Justice Department has warned repeatedly that the memo, prepared by Republican staff on the House Intelligence Committee, is misleading and that its release would set a bad precedent for making government secrets public, including sensitive sources of information and methods of intelligence gathering.

CBS News' Paula Reid reports that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Wray have not requested specific redactions to the memo.

The memo is seen as having the potential to prompt high-level resignations in USA law enforcement agencies if released.

We can't make mistakes. "Don't forget especially for Emerson we are talking about a player coming from a bad injury. The only other World Cup Italy have missed was 60 years ago.

In the video below, Heilemann asked Democratic Senator Chris Murphy precisely this question: "Is it possible that the Republican chairman of the House Intel Committee has been compromised by the Russians?"

It is the latest marker of the rift between the president and the justice officials he appointed. The memo could be entered into the Congressional Record when the House is back in session today at 4:30 p.m., barring any changes to the floor schedule.

Former FBI Director James Comey has defended the agency on Twitter, writing, "All should appreciate the FBI speaking up".

The FBI stressed its concerns in an extraordinary, unsigned public statement that demonstrated its growing rift with Trump and Nunes, a staunch defender in Congress of the president.

Hamilton says that means the Trump-Russia "collusion" investigation - and any supposed obstruction of justice charges related to it - could be dismantled. The Chicago lawmaker contended in an interview that the memo's objective is to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sent separate letters to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday blasting Nunes.

House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said the memo on Federal Bureau of Investigation surveillance was not an indictment of the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Justice Department but a legitimate bid to ensure the law enforcement agency carried out surveillance correctly.
