Roma are interested in signing the Dutchman, who is in the final year of his contract
The decision to retain Blind comes amid the absence of Ivory Coast worldwide Eric Bailly, who has not played since November after undergoing ankle surgery, while Axel Tuanzebe has moved to Aston Villa on a six-month deal.
The Dutchman has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, making just three starts in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho this season. The Italian club want Blind to fill the void initially on loan, with an option to buy in the summer.
Italian giants Roma were said to be looking at Blind to replace Emerson Palmieri, who moved to Chelsea on Tuesday, but they have baulked at United's £13million asking price for the Holland global.
It is not the first time Blind has been linked with a move away in recent months, after Marca reported that Barcelona were keen on the Dutchman in December.
The Daily Mirror independently reports that United want to receive a similar fee to the £13/14m they paid Ajax in 2014.

"Mourinho wants to keep him in the group. Maybe if we had a few days, a week perhaps [a deal would be possible], but we've only got a few hours, so it's really very hard".
