Suspected serial killer targeting Toronto gay community facing more murder charges

But while several of the men Mr. McArthur is accused of killing had ties to the neighborhood, the police said they could not establish that link for all of them.

"The city of Toronto has never seen anything like this", he said.

The bodies were reportedly found dismembered and hidden on a residential property, and some of the remains had been dismembered.

"These remains have not yet been identified", Det.

Toronto police announced the new charges in a press conference this morning.

However, he said that police are also looking into possible victims outside that community.

"We have seized quite a few planters from around the city and we will continue to do that", he said, adding that "there are at least two sites that we do want to excavate where people might be buried".

McArthur is now charged with five counts of first-degree murder. Friends of Skandaraj Navaratnam told the news outlet that, before Navaratnam went missing, he had been dataing McArthur and working for him as a landscaper.

CBC Toronto learned on Tuesday that in addition to a property on Mallory Crescent in Leaside, police searched two more properties near Yonge Street and Balmoral Avenue in North Rosedale.

Meanwhile, investigators are following up on "dozens of tips,"adding, "We will be continuing to search further properties that have come to our attention from various members of the public".

"We do believe there are more".

The Toronto police forensic unit remains on scene, combing the apartment for evidence.

Toronto has never seen anything like this. "At the conclusion of the project, no evidence is found which would classify anyone as a suspect in any criminal offense related to the disappearances", Idsinga said.

Following outcry from the gay community, police formed a task force named Project Prism to look into the disappearances. Investigators have also sought computer information and are following up on tips from Toronto and overseas.

Police found the remains or DNA of 33 women on Robert Pickton's Port Coquitlam, B.C., farm.

The homeowners at a residence where McArthur stored landscaping equipment said police have now removed large planters that McArthur brought there a couple years ago.
