Man convicted in road rage fatal shooting of ex-NFL player Joe McKnight

Ronald Gasser left was found guilty of manslaughter Friday in the death of ex-NFL player Joe McKnight right

"They were both all over the place", motorist Jerrod Jones said, when prosecutors asked about the positions of Gasser and McKnight's vehicles on the road, per Bacon-Blood. "We're obviously disappointed with the verdict", he told The New Orleans Advocate as he left the courthouse. Gasser faces up to 40 years in prison.

Prosecutors told jurors Friday that the evidence shows Gasser angrily pursued McKnight and shot him from inside his own vehicle.

Police said the shooting had followed a five-mile rolling confrontation that began with dangerously aggressive driving on a New Orleans bridge and ended with McKnight being shot as he stood outside Gasser's auto at a suburban intersection.

Gasser never disputed that he shot McKnight on December 1, 2016.

According to Gasser, he feared for his life when McKnight made an aggressive movement, or lunged in such a way as to attempt to get inside his vehicle. However, the prosecutors quickly shot down the allegations by proving that they didn't find any gun powder on Mcknight which would be visible if the victim was in close contact with the shooter.

Closing arguments wrapped up Friday morning in the second-degree murder trial of Ronald Gasser.

He sat out 2013, played 2014 with the Chiefs and 2015 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Gasser was later arrested after law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation by gathering witness reports and physical evidence.
