REUTERSTiger Woods is back in action and is playing the Farmers Insurance Open

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods made three birdies and three bogeys at the Torrey Pines South Course in his return to PGA Tour golf and earned a pass mark from most analysts in the most anticipated round in recent memory.

All the while he had his eye on April, or more specifically, the Masters.

In his second PGA Tour event since August 2015 - including last year's Farmers - Woods was tied for 84th going into Friday's second round.

Meanwhile, Danny Lee has responded to a demotion in the New Zealand golf ranking pecking order by starting strongly at the PGA Tour event in California. It felt good, looked good, I just listened for some noise.

"I haven't done that in such a long time, so I don't know what to expect. I didn't play the par-5s as well either".

"I'll try to focus more on what's going on this week rather than what comes with it if I win". "No, I just got underneath it and then stuck in the ground", he said.

"I want to hit shots and grind out scores". That's usually been my schedule and my outlook ... to try to get ready for Augusta.

Woods spent the majority of 2017 sidelined following spinal fusion surgery and returned to Torrey Pines with a bogey on the opening hole.

Berlin Halts Sale of Weapons to Yemen War Belligerents
The total number of projectiles fired towards Saudi Arabia is nearing 100 since the war, which has killed more than 10,000 people, began.

It's not so much how he plays, but rather for how long.

Woods' swing was a hot topic throughout the week, particularly after he said he wasn't using a swing coach anymore because he wanted to rely on feeling following his back surgery, per's Bob Harig. It was a tough go for a while and now I don't have any of those feelings.

He was never under par the entire round, and his near ace on the 16th brought him back to even par. I've been looking forward to it.

Woods began on the South Course yesterday with Charley Hoffman and Patrick Reed.

He hit only 12 of 18 greens in regulation, and it was his short game that saved him from several other bogeys.

Woods (42) showed obvious signs of rust but he also showed no little power and some of his old flair with the irons, as he nearly aced the 189 yard 16th on the South Course to get back to level par. He was one rotation away from making a long eagle putt on the par-5 sixth.

"I was trying to remember how in the hell do you play out of rye grass. It was fun to compete again", said Woods after a round that included three birdies and three bogeys and left him in joint-83rd place. "Playing out of rye grass is totally different". Back when we were still figuring out this whole digital media coverage thing, the Tour used to offer featured groups streams like that for free (although the quality was admittedly not up to the PGA Tour Live standard, which uses the MLBAM tech). But he's excited to go down that path.

Went for the big drive, but pulled it left into fairway bunker to force a lay-up. "A lot of the guys have been playing well, have been playing a lot and they're seasoned".
