Italian train derails near Milan, two dead

Milan train crash

The accident took place around 7 am (local time) when the train was heading to Milan's Porta Garibaldi station from Cremona. The condition of 10 in the injured is being reported as critical.

Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni promised that full light would be shed on the circumstances of the crash, whose cause was not immediately clear.

In a statement FNM confirmed the accident had happened at Pioltello and said its Chairman Andrea Gibelli was on his way to the site. Photographs show three carriages sprawled across the tracks, one of them tilted to the side, smashed into a pole.

The pictures also show rescuers and police trying to rescue people trapped in the train.

Shadows TV pilot planned for US
The Wellington movie What We Do In the Shadows is to be remade as a half-hour pilot for a potential series on U.S. television. Based on the feature of the same name, the half-hour comedy will be written by Clement and directed by Waititi.

Trenord, the railway company operating the commuter trains, has halted services between Milan and Treviglio. Rescue crews moved carefully and helping the passengers to escape.

This is the worst rail accident in Italy since July 2016.

A number of rail services in Milan, Italy, have been delayed or suspended in view of the Milan train derailment.

The head of Milan police said an investigation had been opened, with railway police interrogating the train driver. In 2009, 32 people were killed when a freight train carrying liquefied petroleum gas derailed and exploded in Viareggio, in central Italy's Tuscany region.
