For the week ending January 13, 1,606 people were hospitalized with confirmed flu cases across the state - a large jump over the same time period past year when the number was 863.

The flu season in Maryland is getting worse. However, in Cayuga County, roughly 70 cases were influenza B.

The upward trend in flu cases may be showing signs of easing.

"The most alarming statistic is that every year thousands of people die after getting the flu", said Dr. Neil Vora, epidemiologist with the city Health Department. "It's a common illness that can spread quickly from person to person".

Michigan, along with 48 other states in the US, was declared by the Centers for Disease Control to have "Widespread" influenza activity, especially for an aggressive strain known as influenza A H3N2. While anyone, particularly individuals who are not vaccinated, can contract the flu, the illness is especially unsafe for certain groups, including: people aged 65 and older; children younger than 2 years old; people of any age with chronic medical conditions, like asthma, diabetes, congestive heart failure, or lung disease; and pregnant women. People can get the shots at their doctor's offices, local pharmacies and clinics.

Emmanuel Macron: French would 'probably' vote to leave EU
Speaking to Marr, he warned that the United Kingdom could not "cherry-pick" the elements it wanted. But Downing Street has said there are "no specific plans" for such a project.

In an interview with National Geographic, Antoni Fauci, director of the National Institutes of Health National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Deseases, detailed the nature of this year's dominant strain.

Public Health England reports that this particularly vicious virus has also caused 85 deaths in the United Kingdom since the beginning of October.

"My message is, if you haven't gotten a vaccine, please get a vaccine". It can cause a nasty but relatively mild illness in many people, but more severe illnesses in others.

The latest numbers from the Colorado Flu Report shows flu hospitalizations continue to decline since peaking in December. Dogs diagnosed with the flu must be kept away from other dogs for at least 21 days to keep it from spreading.

Unlike human influenza, canine flu is not now found everywhere in the United States.

Which strains does the flu vaccine protect against? In years with predominant H3 viruses, the country tends to see more serious cases of the flu, as well as decreased vaccine effectiveness, resulting in more total infections and hospitalizations.

Doctors must give patients the same advice as Fitzgerald: Get a flu shot.
