Stefon Diggs and Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur celebrate after miracle finish in Minnesota

The Giants new head coach and newly appointed general manager Dave Gettleman have some major decisions to make in the coming weeks and months, and Shurmur is looking forward to getting to work.

Shurmur's expertise resides on the offensive side of the ball, but he did have a reputation of being stern as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Mike Holmgren - then-president of the Browns - told the Daily News last week.

The 52-year-old Shurmur replaces Ben McAdoo, who was sacked in early December with the team mired with a 2-10 record and owners and fans upset with his handling of the benching of two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. While with the Browns, his win-loss record was 9-23.

One student arrested, one injured in Texas high school shooting
According to Lee Joffre, the Italy ISD Superintendent, the suspect fired shots in the cafeteria and then left the school building. Italy has a population of about 2,000 people and calls itself " the biggest little town in Texas ", Dallas Morning News reported.

With the Giants, Shurmur will get to work with Manning and possibly the No. 2 pick in the draft, if NY uses the pick to pick an heir apparent.

Shurmur is finishing his second year with the Vikings. It sounds like the Giants are committed to Manning for at least one more year but will be in a position to draft the quarterback of the future with the No. 2 pick in April's NFL Draft. Shurmur also won the final game of the 2015 season after Chip Kelly was sacked by the Eagles. He handled two major quarterback injuries and kept Minnesota's offense on track with Case Keenum under center. Starting 14 regular season games in place of the injured Sam Bradford, Keenum completed 67.6 percent of his passes, second-best in the National Football League, for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions, with a career-high passer rating of 98.3. All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. also chimed in on the situation voicing his excitement for what could lie ahead under Shurmur. "I would say probably a stern coach but at the same time a players' coach, somebody that will get on you but at the same time always have your back", he told First Take on January 3. I know he will provide the type of leadership we need to take our team back to where it belongs.

"This is my first time going through a coach change". Gettleman added, "He is made for this moment and this opportunity". Shurmur served as the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings. Shurmur stayed in that capacity until early 2009, when he was hired by another former Eagles assistant, Steve Spagnuolo, to be the Rams offensive coordinator. He coached in college at Stanford and Michigan State.
