Arsenal's pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is heating up as Borussia Dortmund left the striker out of their squad to face Hertha Berlin on Friday.

It paints a concerning image of Aubameyang's character but many Arsenal fans are ready to overlook it.

Arsenal are also close to completing a swap deal with Manchester United which involves Alexis Sanchez joining Old Trafford, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan will move in the opposite direction.

He said: "Well generally it doesn't bother me at all if Aubameyang right now is kicking it around somewhere else".

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed to SID, an AFP subsidiary, that there has now been contact with Arsenal, but said reports of a possible fee are "speculation" and "the first contact has not been about money".

Hertha are 11th on 24 points but victory over Dortmund could move them into the top seven.

Dortmund coach Peter Stoeger has told magazine Sport Bild he "assumes" Aubameyang, who has scored 21 goals in 23 matches this season, will stay, but "if he leaves, it will be hard to replace him with that goal quota".

Battlefield 1's Apocalypse DLC out next month, includes five new maps
Available as part of the season pass, the new Battlefield 1 Apocalypse DLC will feature a new Air Assault mode. Due for release in February, the latest expansion for DICE and EA's shooter will introduce five new maps .

MailOnline's Simon Jones reported Dortmund have already rejected an offer for their striker worth £40 million and are seeking "at least £53 million" to part ways with their man.

Aubameyang's behaviour and poor discipline has worsened things this month, and Schurrle said that the squad had tried to talk to him about the situation, but have struggled to get through to him.

Aubameyang spotted the tweet and responded, saying: "Bla bla bla next step is the jail you don't know nothing so take care of you! not me".

It was the third time in just over a year that Dortmund dropped the player for disciplinary reasons.

Mkhitaryan is arguably far more suited to Arsenal's system than United's and while Romelu Lukaku is deceptively quick, he doesn't boast the blistering pace Aubameyang does.

Arsenal, however, are confident of completing a deal for the Gabon global, who has scored 141 goals in 212 games for Dortmund.
