Buses for Apple employees 'attacked' with pellet guns, company suspects

Apple shuttle buses rerouted following suspected attacks

Charter buses shuttling Google and Apple employees to and from work on a local highway have had windows shattered in the last week after they were hit with an unknown projectile.

"If someone was targeting the buses, I'm sure they are going to find them anywhere they go".

Certain people at Apple believe someone is purposefully destroying their buses, which transport people from San Francisco to its headquarters in Cuptertino, with perhaps BB guns or rocks, according to Gizmodo.

A police officer shouts for demonstrators to move out of the path of a Google shuttle bus in San Francisco in 2014.

Apple's decision to build a data center in Reno in 2012 kickstarted a wave of big-name tech projects coming to the Reno area, as well as a new approach to economic development.

However, the companies are recognizable by the colors of the buses like silver for Apple, white for Google and blue for Facebook, according to a Guardian report. Mashable obtained the email and has verified its authenticity.

Due to recent incidents of broken windows along the commute route, specifically on highway 280, we're re-routing coaches for the time being. This change in routes might add 30-45 minutes to commute time in each direction for some riders. Following the incidents, both the tech firms have rerouted employee buses keeping in mind the safety of their employees. We're working closely with law enforcement to investigate these incidents and we'll notify you as soon as the coaches are able to return to the regular route.

At least four shuttles have been attacked between 12-16 January. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

While the exact method by which the buses are being attacked remains unclear, that fact that real damage has been done is not.

Speaking to FOX KTVU, Montiel said that this is a serious concern "if this happened to distract the driver - the driver could collide and we could have a multiple vehicle crash at the same time it could cause major injuries to the passengers of the bus and other drivers".

We have reached out to Apple and Google and will update this article if we hear back.

The buses were not marked with the logos of the companies that chartered them.
