Teacher handcuffed after questioning superintendent's pay raise during school board meeting

In this Monday Jan. 8 2018 image made from a video provided by KATC-TV middle-school English teacher Deyshia Hargrave is handcuffed by a city marshal after complying with a marshal's orders to leave a Vermilion Parish School Board meeting in Abbeville

The Abbeville Police Department says they have received numerous emails and phone calls about the arrest but all questions concerning this incident should be made to the Vermilion Parish School Board. During the public comments period, Hargrave was asked to stop asking questions, and she obeyed. Shortly after, Hargrave was removed from the building in handcuffs.

A Louisiana middle school teacher was removed from a Vermillion Parish school board meeting in handcuffs Monday evening after she questioned why the school district superintendent was receiving a $38,000 raise when rank-and-file teachers and support staff haven't gotten a pay raise in years.

A Louisiana teacher was forcibly removed from a school board meeting and arrested after saying that pay raises for leadership on the board was a "slap in the face" to all teachers.

Deyshia Hargrave, a middle school teacher in the Vermilion Parish school system, was videotaped being escorted out of a room and then wrestled into handcuffs by a city marshal on January 8.

Board members told NBC News that the meeting was called to vote on whether to approve a new contract for superintendent Jermone Puyau. She and others were in attendance at a school board meeting at the time of the incident, reports KATC.

Titans come back from 18 down to shock Chiefs
The fourth-seeded Chiefs won four straight games to cap the regular season and capture their second straight AFC West title. Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce left the game late in the first half after a hit by Titans' Johnathan Cyprien .

Hargrave was arrested for resisting an officer and remaining after being forbidden, but the school system is not pressing charges, KATC reported. Fontana said it would have been the marshal's duty to escort her out of the meeting but not arrest her unless she had committed a crime.

"I'm not - you just pushed me to the floor", a visibly shaken Hargrave responded.

On Tuesday morning, Hargrave's Facebook page was filled with supportive comments, some thanking her for taking a stand.

Her removal did not go unnoticed, and one female board member said, "What happened here tonight".
