Razer Wants To Turn Its Gaming Phone Into A Laptop

At CES 2018, Razer showed off Project Linda that pairs perfectly with the latest Razer Phone. Instead, there is a space where the Razer Phone can be docked, allowing the 5.7-inch screen to be used as a touchpad or as a second screen for games or work.

Cleverly, when docked, the Razer Phone works as the laptop's touchpad as it slides into the front of the keyboard. In a nutshell, it's a laptop shell, which uses the Razer Phone as the touchpad.

The phone's Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform and 8 GB of RAM deliver responsive performance, instantly transforming Project Linda into an Android laptop.

"The Razer Phone brings an incredible Netflix viewing experience to the smartphone", revealed Anthony Park, vice president of engineering at Netflix.

Unfortunately, this is just a project within the Razer labs right now and there isn't any word on when or if this device will see the light of day as a real product consumers can buy.

It comprises a backlit keyboard, with Razer Chroma coloured LEDs, and a 13.3-inch 120Hz Quad HD display.

The Project Linda dock has a 53.6Wh battery, capable of fast-charging the phone up to 3 times.

Project Linda bridges the gap between handheld entertainment and laptop convenience. When you connect the two devices, the phone powers a 13.3-inch screen, a full-sized keyboard, and the option to plug in external devices like a mouse. Although it's true that the four Project Lindas Razer had on hand in its suite this year are indeed prototypes, they were all functioning, at least to an extent. Razer's current prototype is created to fit the company's own smartphone, but since it connects via USB-C, Project Linda could eventually work with any phone that uses such a port, theoretically speaking.

For example, you'd be able to power through your Gmail or Google Docs duties much more quickly on Project Linda than you would on just your phone, thanks to the relevant Android apps.
