Party of Yemen's slain Saleh elects new chief

Anti-Houthi forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, have intensified an offensive against the Iran-aligned group that controls most of northern Yemen since former President Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed after he switched sides in Yemen's almost three-year-old civil war.

While Riyadh said the fighter jet had gone down due to a "technical glitch", Houthis claimed they shot it down in the war zone.

"The Arab Coalition Forces Command implemented a private joint operation in participation of air and land forces to evacuate two pilots to Saudi Arabia", the spokesman added.

Saudi officials don't appear to want to admit to a shoot-down, however, and rather say that the plane crashed on its own do to some as-yet-unspecified "technical fault".

Pakistan condemns terror attack in Kabul
Embassy where security personnel are reported to have been carrying out an operation against illegal drugs and alcohol. In a statement Thursday, President Ashraf Ghani called the attack "inhumane" and against the tenets of Islam.

Saudi Arabia has been engaged in the Yemen conflict, one of the worst man-made disasters in recent decades, targeting Houthi rebels for almost three years. Saudi Arabia is known to be the only country in the region to use the Panavia Tornado aircraft.

The Saudi-led coalition began its military campaign in Yemen almost three years ago in an attempt to propel ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi back to power and to prevent Houthi rebels from taking control of the country.

At least ten Houthi rebels were killed when artillery shelling targeted their locations near the government-controlled province of Lahj on Monday, a military official told Xinhua.

The almost three years into Yemen's civil war have killed over 10,000 Yemenis, mostly children, and displaced 3 million others, creating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
