Google has sold a Home device every second since October

A recent study from Juniper Research found that smart speakers such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, and the Sonos One will be installed in over 70 million US households by 2022, reaching 55% of all homes.

"Google says, "[The Google] Assistant now gives you the power to voice control more than 1,500 compatible smart home devices from over 225 brands.

Back in November, we learned that for the first time in several years, Google would have an official presence at CES. With all these choices, you've connected millions of new smart home devices to Google Home every month. What we do know is that Google is likely to have sold somewhere in the region of 7m devices since October in total. The Home Max started shipping to consumers in December 2017, so it may not account for the sales. It is now available on 400 million devices, "including speakers like Google Home, Android phones and tablets, iPhones, headphones, TVs, watches and more". The feature is now available in the US, Australia, Canada and the UK. In India though, we get limited features, and it's also disappointing that the company is yet to announce a Google Home product in the Indian market. Google made a decision to brag a bit about how successful its Home speakers have been in a blog post published yesterday.

But aside from shedding more light on the staggering growth of the smart speaker market, the survey also highlights another interesting trend - owners of smart home speakers, such as the Google Home and Amazon Echo, tend to use their smartphones less, while at home least.
