United States chat shows including The Daily Show and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert are fighting it out to be named in Donald Trump "Most Dishonest and Corrupt Media Awards of the Year" on Monday (8 January).

In a tweet, Donald Trump stated, "I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o'clock. The interest in and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated". Maybe-maybe-there was a chance that we would, for at least a couple minutes, stop paying attention to Donald Trump.

Trump frequently rails on the media and accuses reporters and networks of being "fake news".

Thank President Trump for all his accomplishments during his first year in office.

The late-night comedians responded by copying each other in an attempt to get the "Fake News Media" award, expressing the view that receiving an award would be a badge of honor.

On Friday the Daily Show with Trevor Noah took out a full colour Oscar-style advert in the New York Times also apparently aimed at sealing a victory in Mr Trump's awards. "Stay tuned!" Trump said. The bad news is he's itching to start a nuclear war.

Quake rocks San Francisco Bay Area
It was considered the "Great Earthquake" until 1906, when San Francisco was hit by its last major quake, which killed 700 people. Near San Francisco International Airport, several jolts could be felt. "I felt it in San Rafael", she posted.

"The President of the United States is starting his own awards show - the Stupid People's Choice Awards are what they're calling it", Kimmel said.

"And I think I've wasted enough of my viewers' time".

Cheri Angel responded: "I can hardly wait".

Trump latest tweet comes amid a firestorm over an explosive new book about the Trump presidency, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House".

It also says the Trump campaign did not expect to win the USA election and Trump himself was "befuddled" by the result, that he was angry A-list stars snubbed his inauguration, and that he found the White House "scary".
