GETTY Chelsea look set to finally sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley

A medical examination appears to be the only obstacle standing between Everton star Ross Barkley and a move to Chelsea following a £15million deal, after Tottenham pulled their interest in the England midfielder.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has been vocal in recent weeks about his desire to see the club strengthen his squad "in the numerical aspect" during the January transfer window, and the Blues are expected to actively explore other deals throughout the month.

However, with Barkley out of contract at the end of the current season, Chelsea could land a bargain and the BBC reports that a fee of £15 million is likely to be paid. The prolific playmaker for the Toffees is yet to play his first game in the Premier League after recovering from hamstring surgery which was followed by another injury during training.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce had confirmed on Thursday that Barkley's departure from Merseyside is just a matter of when, not if.

In his speech Monday, Kim said the Olympics could provide a reason for officials from the neighbours "to meet in the near future". Kim said in his speech Monday that North Korea past year achieved the historic feat of "completing" its nuclear forces.

The 24-year old remained a wanted man for Chelsea and was under Conte's radar for a couple of seasons.

New manager Sam Allardyce said past year that if he returned to full fitness and remained committed, he could still have a future at the club.

"I would expect there would be [an offer] sometime in this window if there's going to be interest from one of the big boys", the Everton boss told a news conference ahead of Friday's match away to local rivals Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup.

It will mean the player is leaving Goodison Park after 13 years, having joined Everton as an 11-year-old in 2005.
