"The answer was nearly always the same: You just know".

Palmer finishes his career 12th All-Time in passing yards (46,247) and touchdowns (294).

With the quarterback following head coach Bruce Arians into retirement, the Cardinals could be ready to usher in a new era.

Carson Palmer's NFL career is over after 15 years in the league with three teams.

"For me, that time is now. There wasn't one second that I took for granted or failed to appreciate what a tremendous privilege it is".

"What I'll never forget are the relationships - not just the incredible teammates and coaches, but all of those countless people at the Bengals, Raiders and Cardinals who work behind the scenes to make this whole thing run". He owns the second-best passer rating (91.1) in Cardinals' history (Kurt Warner) and finished with a 92-91-1 record in the regular season (1-3 in the postseason). Palmer's final season was limited to seven games after he broke his arm in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London in October. The 38-year-old quarterback was the top overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft following an illustrious career at USC, winning a Heisman Trophy. But Johnson and Palmer's injuries as well as other key injuries on offense were crushing.

Palmer was the No 1 overall pick at the 2003 National Football League draft and played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Oakland Raiders before joining the Cardinals in 2013.

His relationship with the Bengals ended poorly, with Palmer requesting to be traded after the 2010 season.

After two seasons with the Raiders Palmer was traded to the Cardinals in 2013 and played five seasons with the team.
