An anonymous donor left a gold coin in a Salvation Army Red Kettle in St. Matthews.

The Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Campaign has put out an urgent plea for donations as they are still 25 per cent away from their $310,000 goal.

The Salvation Army's Christmas Family Feast is on Christmas Day.

"It has been much better than it has in the last couple years, but we are still struggling".

They've been contributing to the cause for over 20 years. Williams said the goal is to raise $515,000 in Louisville and he think's they'll surpass it.

A Toy Store set up by Centenary United Methodist Church Youth Group will provide new gifts for children attending the dinner. We have been blessed by their support for some time, and with 1200 families and as many as 1800 individuals in need this holiday season, donations such as this are particularly welcome.

"There are many families that are hurting", Wood said. "We can't do this without volunteers, there is just no way", Stewart said.

"Some of our individual kettles have increased, from an individual kettle base from previous year", Hughes said.

"We ended up having to fill a good many of them, but we made sure we were very generous and I just know these kids are going to feel really blessed come Christmas morning", Stewart said.

"The Rotary clubs of Burlington will be hosting most of our kettle locations on Saturday to hopefully give us a push over the top".
