Two unidentified militants were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said on Tuesday.

However clashes between forces and locals resumed early morning during which third militant was able to break the cordon and flee from the spot, said a police source.

Locals said that protests broke out in the area and villagers were trying to move towards the encounter site to give safe passage to militants.

"Two bodies have been recovered from the encounter site so far", said Director General of Police S.P. Vaid. The government forces responded with bullets and pellet fires. But clashes continued between rock-throwing protesters and troops who fired bullets, shotgun pellets and tear gas. "A lady with a bullet injury in her abdomen was brought to our hospital who was referred to SMHS hospital in a critical condition, " he added. "Beauty was rushed to a hospital but died on the way", her relatives said.

Amtrak train derails on highway bridge in Washington
US President Donald Trump tweeted that the incident shows "more than ever" why his infrastructure plan "must be approved quickly". Local officials had warned only weeks ago that the track still might not be safe enough to handle trains at higher speeds.

A woman was injured during the exchange of fire and she succumbed to her injuries later on.

The identity of the militants is being ascertained, said the police.

The killings have invited sharp criticism from the resistance leadership led by octogenarian senior leader Syed Ali Geelani, and including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The leadership said that the spree of brutal killings has crossed every limit and has now become intolerable.

Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed a rise in civilian casualties this year. The surge in violence comes after massive anti-India protests and clashes erupted in Kashmir when a popular rebel leader was killed over a year ago.
