IMPACT says it's not in a position to call off Wednesday's planned strike action by Ryanair pilots until it meets with the company.

The airline was also facing action by pilots in Italy, Germany and Portugal.

It said: 'The union has agreed to meet management on Tuesday evening, but says it is available to meet sooner.

In October, Mr O'Leary wrote to his airline's pilots to offer them better pay and conditions after Ryanair was forced to cancel thousands of flights.

If the strike had gone ahead it would have seen the majority of the firm's captains in Ireland walk out.

It has asked the airline to release its pilot representatives so they can prepare for and attend the meeting.

Korea as S. Korea & US escalate activity
China's envoy expressed concern about a hardening of positions, saying the current crisis "hardly makes one optimistic". But the White House distanced itself from those remarks by Tillerson and said now is not the time for negotiations.

Ryanair has never recognised unions, but it said it would change this policy in order to avoid disruption to flights and passengers in Christmas week.

While the decision to recognise trade unions for the first time in Ryanair's 32-year history has averted the threat of strikes, the move rattled investors and its shares fell nearly 9 percent on Friday.

The statement added: "The union acknowledged the principled determination of Ryanair pilots which it said had made this breakthrough possible and said it looked forward to establishing a positive relationship with Ryanair company management".

Ryanair pilots have called off a planned strike action due to take place on Wednesday.

Pilots in Germany have voted to take industrial action during the Christmas period and German union Vereinigung Cockpit said the onus was now on Ryanair to "prove that this announcement is serious".

Ryanair has sought a meeting with the Irish Airline Pilots' Association on that day, according to The Independent.
