Rep. Trent Franks is reportedly going to resign

A MARCH 24 2017 FILE

Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., is expected to announce his resignation Thursday evening, multiple Republican sources told NBC News.

He left the House floor Thursday after being consoled by several other Republicans, including Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, Alabama's Robert Aderholt and fellow Arizonan Andy Biggs.

Franks told Roll Call that he will be making an announcement later in the day, but did not elaborate.

"The statement will explain", he said.

Representing a solidly-Republican swath of Arizona, north of Phoenix, Franks built a reputation as a hard-line conservative since joining Congress in 2003.

Earlier on Thursday, Democratic Senator Al Franken of Minnesota said he would resign in a few weeks following allegations of sexual misconduct.

However, it seems Bitcoin's vast popularity is slowly gaining traction among private entities and financial regulators. This is the clearest indication that professional investors are looking at Bitcoin as a serious investment asset.

It was not immediately clear why Franks was resigning.

His Arizona district went big for President Trump in the presidential election, and he was considered a reliable supporter of the president's agenda.

There is no word on who could replace Franks at this time.

Franks has been a member of the far-right House Freedom Caucus.

Before winning election to Congress, he served in the Arizona legislature and founded the Arizona Family Research Institute, an organization associated with Dr. James Dobson's "Focus on the Family".
