Facebook Launched "Messenger Kids" Standalone App for Children Under 13 Review & Features: - Now the popular social media site Facebook is coming for your kids. The social media giant is all set to launches a messaging app for children where children can chat with their friends and parents which is also going to approved by their parents.
Messenger Kids is a simplified version of Facebook's existing messaging app which needs parents to approve any contacts added by their children.
The idea is to make sure that parents have full control over the online experience of their children, and Messenger Kids is one such app created to open lines of communication along the way.
Jenny Radesky, a paediatrics professor at the University of MI, told the Wall Street Journal: "In my research, clinical work and friendships, I've never heard parents say that they want their child using social media earlier".
Hunt, who has suggested social media affects young people's mental health, said on Twitter: "Not sure this is the right direction at all".
The child would not be given their own Facebook account, which is prohibited for those under 13.
Patriots Lead Bills 9-3 at the Half Gronkowski drove his shoulder as he lay face down on the turf after the whistle and was penalized for unnecessary roughness. LeSean McCoy carried twice for 8 yards, bringing his game total to 12 for 68.
Even so, child heath experts like Dunaway remain skeptical. The narrowed app was designed after consultation with hundreds of parents and several children's advocates, such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Facebook said.
Once verified, the app allows the children to take part in live video chats, send pictures and text to each other.
And messages don't disappear and can't be hidden in case parents want to monitor them, Facebook says on its website. As with Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat, children can add filters or playful drawings to the photos they send. Users were presented with the message "chat is now unavailable".
Facebook Messenger appeared to be down on Tuesday morning, according to multiple reports.
But some online safety experts say many kids under the age of 13 are already on social networks. Magid said it may be more realistic to encourage companies to create safer, more limited and legally compliant services as a sort of "training wheels" version of more mainstream social media.
