Amazon Prime Launches In Singapore, Subscription Starts From $2.99/Month
Therefore, currently, only Prime members will be eligible for free global shipping on orders above $60 to more than five million products listed on Amazon's site in the United States, which will be made available on the Prime Now mobile app.
Singapore is the 16th country and the first in South-east Asia to launch Amazon Prime.
Singapore customers will be able to enjoy Prime benefits including exclusive access to free two-hour delivery on orders over S$40 with thousands of items and unlimited free worldwide shipping on orders above S$60 on more than five million items from Amazon US, which can be ordered through the Prime Now App.
The service, which offers free two-hour delivery from its local warehouse with a minimum order of $40, is now exclusive to Prime members.
A SmarterHQ report claims 82 percent of Amazon's Prime users - consumers who pay an annual fee for two-day free shipping on a good majority of items - would cancel the Prime subscription if that free, two-day shipping was not available. Lazada launched their own membership scheme called "Live Up", offering the fastest delivery available for free as well as a 5% rebate on every Lazada order.

However, as an introductory offer, Amazon only charge S$2.99, though Amazon decline to inform of how long the promotion will last.
Amazon Prime International's vice-president Jamil Ghani said more benefits will be added over time for Prime membership here.
The Prime launch, a first in Southeast Asia, will see Amazon expanding its reach in the region even as Chinese rival Alibaba already sells merchandise from its online Taobao stores through a regional e-commerce subsidiary, Lazada.
While free shipping and the ability to purchase worldwide goods at lower cost are Amazon's main draw for Singaporeans, it has upped its features to include streaming with the launch of Amazon Prime. "Whether Amazon will be able to retain them and turn them into loyal customers will depend on the consistency of its service quality and if Amazon can provide more value to their customers that they are otherwise unable to get from other retailers".
While benefits are only restricted to the mobile app, Ghani said that more will be added in the future for Prime membership in Singapore.
