Lonzo Ball already is in his rookie season with the Los Angeles Lakers, and LiAngelo's personal National Basketball Association preparation is all part of LaVar's master plan to have his three sons play for their hometown team.
"Fifty percent of the people are going to like it and 50 percent (are) going to be like, 'Man, that dude's ungrateful, '" Ball said Tuesday, referring to his reaction to Trump claiming responsibility for ensuring his son, LiAngelo Ball, didn't end up incarcerated in China following an arrest for shoplifting.
LaVar pulled LiAngelo out of UCLA earlier in the week, sidestepping the suspension the university had handed down for the students' shoplifting.
LaVar Ball questioned why his son was being punished more harshly in the U.S. when China had already "forgiven" the players. On the morning of the players' release, Trump told reporters he "had a great conversation" with his Chinese counterpart about letting them return home. You wear whatever they have for you, like a little jumpsuit. "You know how kids think", he said.
"It was terrible", LiAngelo said of the jail. "That's just a long time of doing nothing - I'd rather be playing".
"What happened to them, it's been a long enough punishment. And if they did it, genuinely, do you really need to come up to me and say, 'Boy, you better thank me?'" LaVar Ball said. He'd be unable to enroll and play immediately for any NCAA Division I program, although there would have been at least the possibility he could catch on at a lower-level program, like an NAIA school. After Trump requested a "thank you" from LaVar, the patriarch of the Ball family declined to do so - but did send the US president three pairs of his Big Baller Brand shoes.
"We only went to UCLA [to be] one-and-done", LaVar said.
