Yemen's anti-Saudi alliance members clash for second day, three killed

Yemen's anti-Saudi alliance members clash for second day, three killed

In 2011, Yemen fell into chaos after an uprising deposed Saleh.

Former president Saleh and the Yemeni military fought the Houthi rebels five times from 2005 to 2014, before becoming allies after the Saudi-led coalition took military action in March 2015 to restore President Hadi to power, who had been ousted and imprisoned by the Houthis.

Saleh agreed to leave presidency in 2012, n 33 years in front of Yemen, after months of popular protests and global pressure (including that of its neighbours) to prevent anor civil war being unleashed as in Libya or Syria.

However, the leader of the Houthis, Abdul Malik al-Houthi denied in a TV address on Saturday that his fighters had stormed the mosque, attributing the reason behind the clashes to some militias that want to create chaos in Sana'a.

The Houthi rebels also responded, accusing the ex-president of staging a "coup" against their fragile alliance.

The offer came as clashes between Saleh loyalists and rebel fighters intensified in Sana'a.

"I call upon the brothers in neighbouring states and the alliance to stop their aggression, lift the siege, open the airports and allow food aid and the saving of the wounded and we will turn a new page by virtue of our neighbourliness", Mr Saleh said in a televised speech.

Fisher resigns after eight seasons
Last December, Fisher signed a contract extension through 2024 that makes him among the highest-paid coaches in the country. According to Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com , Fisher is expected to be introduced as the new Aggies head coach on Monday.

"We will deal with them in a positive way and what happened to Yemen is enough", he added.

Residents of Sanaa described heavy fighting on the streets of Hadda, a southern residential district of the Yemeni capital where many of Saleh's relatives, including his nephew Tareq, live, early on Saturday, with sounds of explosions and gunfire heard all over the area. A spokesman said: "Saleh's speech is a coup against our alliance and partnership. and exposed the deception of those who claim to stand against aggression".

The United Nations has warned Yemen faces mass starvation unless the Saudi-led coalition allows more food aid to enter the impoverished country.

On Saturday, the Houthis fired three mortar rounds towards Tareq's house, while Saleh's supporters burned Houthi military vehicles; there are casualties from both sides. but there are no specific figures as the fighting is still ongoing.

For coalition, former president betrayed Arabs by joining Huthi, a militia that emerged at end of last century to improve living conditions of ZaydĂ minority (a branch of Shi'a Islam that follows one-third of Yemenis) and that Saudi Arabia considers an Inst Rumeno of his rival Iran.

Yemen's war has killed more than 10,000 people since 2015, displaced more than two million people, caused a cholera outbreak infecting almost one million people and led the country on the brink of starvation.
