The next manager of the New York Yankees is expected to be either ESPN analyst Aaron Boone or San Francisco Giants bench coach Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens, according to sources. To replace Joe Girardi as the Yankees' head man in the dugout, Boone had to beat out five other serious candidates, including ex-MLB manager Eric Wedge, and recently retired (and probable future Hall of Famer) Carlos Beltran.

Bill Madden of the New York Daily News was the first to report the hiring of Boone, a former Yankees third baseman who will become the 35th manager in club history.

Aaron Boone said on November 17 that he believes that time with the Yankees could help him prepare for this job, which certainly comes with its share of expectations.

On Friday morning, before the news leaked, Cashman was in Stamford, Connecticut, rehearsing for his annual rappelling down a building for charity. Sources told Olney then that Cashman recommended to owner Hal Steinbrenner that the team change managers. No one knew that the recommendation would be Boone. He said Cashman contacted him about succeeding Girardi, whose contract was not renewed despite the Yankees' surprising surge to the ALCS.

He added, "We're looking for someone that has obviously the communication skills to manage people - vitally important".

But the Boone-Yankees bond has roots that go back 14 years, not because of his pennant-winning home run in 2003, but his quick display of responsibility and integrity a few months later.

Ole Miss Gets Two-Year Bowl Ban, Loss of Scholarships Following Sanctions
The 41-year-old led the Rebels to a respectable season, including an Egg Bowl win over rival Mississippi State last week. Matt Luke was named the permanent head coach on Sunday after serving on an interim basis throughout the 2017 season.

Apparently, Boone was the guy who checked most of the boxes.

"I know what I would be signing up for", he said. Steinbrenner said he was unlikely to hire anyone without managerial experience, so Aaron must have impressed the hell of out him during his interviews! This would include just 54 games with the Yankees.

"And I very much think that my job as manager would be to forge really strong relationships where these players understand that me and my staff are going to really care about them, that they're going to be able to trust us".

That's good news because managing in NY is not an easy task-whether you're in the Bronx or even in Queens, you're constantly under the microscope.

With reigning AL home run king Aaron Judge, power-hitting catcher Gary Sanchez, ace Luis Severino, a top-notch bullpen and ascendant young infielder Gleyber Torres all at his disposal, Boone should have the resources necessary to morph the Yankees into a perennial powerhouse once he gets acclimated to life on the bench.

Facing that type of pressure makes it "even a little more worthwhile when you're chasing after it". We'll have to wait and see.
