Big Sam brought in to steady the ship at struggling Everton
Allardyce said: "I've always thought Everton was a great club". But the chance to turn around Everton's faltering ship has lured him back, and Allardyce is expected to have a watching brief at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
Allardyce will take charge of the team in the next 48 hours.
Allardyce is returning to management six months after resigning from his post at Crystal Palace, having said at the time that he had "no ambitions to take another job".

Everton's communications department were unaware of this and an embarrassing situation was made worse when bookmaker Paddy Power released quotes given to them by Allardyce two weeks ago in which he dissected the team's problems.
They have conceded more than twice as many goals as they have scored having failed to replace leading scorer Romelu Lukaku following his summer departure for Manchester United.
