Cyclone Ockhi: At least 8 dead in Tamil Nadu, Kerala; storm to intensify as it heads towards Lakshadweep
In Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts of Tamil Nadu, strong winds uprooted more than 500 trees, snapped power lines and damaged settlements close to the sea. Navy, coast guard, air force and local police have launched a massive operation to rescue them. The Southern Naval Command has deployed Naval ships "Shardul", "Nireekshak", "Kabra" and "Kalpeni" and two aircraft based on the request received from the Thiruvananthapuram Collector for assistance.
