Tom Baker to make cameo appearance in lost 'Doctor Who' episode
27 November 2017, 01:21 | Cassandra Thompson
Tom Baker has filmed a scene for Shada which was abandoned in 1979BBC PA
In an effort to find the hidden world, he calls upon a Time Lord-masquerading on Earth as Professor Chronotis at St. Cedd's College in Cambridge-who, in turn, call on his old friend and protege, the Doctor.
The lost episode will be available to buy on digital download and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 4. Baker donned his trademark stripy scarf to film a scene at the BBC Television Centre in London, while other parts of the 1979 episode were completed with animation and the use of the actor's voice.
"The Five Doctors" was a celebration of the first 20 years of the world's longest-running science fiction series "Doctor Who". On the 23rd, the BBC tweeted a video of Tom Baker wishing Doctor Who a happy birthday, where he called himself the "happiest" of Doctors. But that was shelved to make way for Christmas programming.
If the title sounds familiar, it's because a number of versions have already been issued. Shada - an episode that began filming in 1979 with Tom Baker as the legendary Time Lord - is finally finished and available to download (a DVD will be released in the United Kingdom on December 4th, and in the U.S. on January 9th).
Elements of the story, meanwhile, were recycled by Douglas Adams in his novel "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" (readers might remember Professor Chronotis and his time machine).
He's talking about his five years doing Big Finish audios, as well as his cameo in the fiftieth anniversary, and most recently, the episode of his era. "So I took to it like a duck to water and I still do".
I think it never left me and that's why I can't stay away from it. "My real life was really rather drab compared with the life of Doctor Who when we were making it".
