GETTY Thibaut Courtois admits he is no closer to extending his contract at Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois Chelsea

United received a huge boost recently when the news of Real Madrid closing in on a deal with Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois caught the headlines.

And speaking ahead of Wednesday's Champions League outing, Courtois said: "We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team's games, my own performances".

Should they change their minds at the end of the season, Courtois or the Spain global would be the prime candidates.

Courtois has spoken glowingly of his time in Madrid after spending time on loan with Atletico, and a transfer to their city rivals Real has never been ruled out.

Thibaut Courtois has reportedly informed Chelsea that he wants a salary of £205,000 a week in order to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions.

It's suggested Los Merengues will look to replace incumbent No. 1 Keylor Navas, with Manchester United and Spain keeper David De Gea another option.

The Belgium global has less than two years left to run on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, with that agreement set to expire in the summer of 2019.

Courtois is not rushing to resolve his future.

Talks over a new deal have been ongoing for several months but it's yet to be agreed, as confirmed by Courtois yesterday. I don't think there have been any new developments.

Despite the fact Courtois already earns £200,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, Lewis wrote he could double those wages with Real, while a move to Atletico would see him return to a familiar setting where he's already had good fortune.

He has added to his silverware since returning to his parent club, landing the Premier League title in two of the last three campaigns, and the League Cup in 2015.

Grigor Dimitrov vs David Goffin
Well, right now I'm right here. "I just can't believe it", Goffin said after the match with disbelief writ large on his face. Dimitrov needed five championship points to get over the line as an untimely wobble invited Goffin back into the final set.
