Google is already showing a lot of information about businesses, from the basics like opening hours through to what their busiest times are.

The Internet giant announced Tuesday that Google Search (and eventually Google Maps) will show diners the estimated wait times for local restaurants to help them skip the crowds and jump the lines.

When this feature is available, all you have to do is search for the business name to find current wait times.

The company also appears to be rolling out wait time listings for grocery stores, which shows how long it will take for customers to check out, according to a company support page. You can also see a summary of each days wait times so you can try to go at a quieter time. All of these wait time estimates are extracted from anonymized historical data.

Bowling Green man charged with assaulting Sen. Paul
Kentucky State Police Master Trooper Jeremy Hodges said he could not release details of the assault because of security issues. Hodges said Boucher would have faced more serious charges if had he used a weapon or if Paul had been injured seriously.

For over a couple of years now, Google has been leveraging data from Google Maps' install base to deliver these sorts of insights. In addition, Google will tell you how long people typically spend at the restaurant.

The new wait time feature will be supported on almost a million sit-down restaurant listings worldwide, initially in Google Search.

People aren't always able to book ahead at a restaurant, and for travelers who may not have a specific place in mind, being able to see where it will be easiest to get a table, in, say, an hour, can simplify the decision-making process.
