USA and Japanese service members standing shoulder to shoulder have made Yokota Air Base one of the most capable operational bases in Japan and in the world, President Donald J. Trump said in a troop talk there, today.

Mr Trump is trying to create a united front against Kim Jong-un and wants Mr Putin to join the leaders of Japan and South Korea in pressing China to do more to reign in the trigger-happy despot. The two men also met on the sidelines of an worldwide summit in Italy this spring and Trump hosted Abe in Florida.

"For nearly 60 years, the military alliance we see on this base has endured a cornerstone of sovereignty, security and prosperity for our nations, this region and indeed, the entire world", Trump told the audience.

That bond was clear on Sunday.

"Our relationship is really extraordinary".

"As Americans celebrate Veterans Day this month, we honor all who have sacrificed to make peace and stability possible", Trump said, adding the United States pays tribute to every proud American who has worn the uniform and served the nation. "And I don't think we've ever been closer to Japan than we are right now", Trump said.

Abe presented Trump with a new hat with a message printed in a similar style of his famous campaign slogan. He said that the two leaders were able to talk frankly in a relaxed atmosphere while out on the course. He said they were able to "carry out in depth discussion, at times touching on various hard issues".

He presented the U.S. with a hat embroidered with the words "Donald and Shinzo: Make Alliance Even Greater" - a play on Mr Trump's 2016 election campaign theme. The two passed up the region's famed Kobe beef in favor of the American version, which is favored by Trump, a famed picky eater. Abe and Trump will meet families of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea. Both men are avid golfers.

"What's inflammatory is the North Korean regime and what they're doing to threaten the world", McMaster said.

Ever since Saudi Arabia delivered a lavish welcome on Trump's first global trip, leaders have tried to outdo themselves to impress the president, who has proven susceptible to flattery.

"No one, no dictator should underestimate our resolve", the president told an assembly of American and Japanese servicemen at Yokota Air Force Base, a large American installation in Tokyo's western suburbs.

It comes as Trump sets off on a whirlwind tour of Asia to discuss North Korea's nukes with diferent leaders.

The president has called the investigation "very distracting".

North Korean Christians are in danger if Donald Trump continues his aggression towards Kim Jong Un, a former missionary in the pariah state is warning.

"The president will use whatever language he wants to use, obviously", McMaster said.

Relations between Moscow and Washington have soured further since Putin and Trump first met at a G20 summit in Hamburg in July when they discussed allegations of Russian meddling in the USA election, but agreed to focus on better ties.

Each service member embodies the warrior creed, Trump said, adding their devotion, prowess and expertise comprise the USA military as the fiercest fighting force in world history. He has dropped that antagonist language nearly entirely since the election, but tensions remain.

Colvin reported from Tokyo. "So far, Abe hasn't told him no".
