Flanagan made her debut at the NYC Marathon in 2010, finishing second with a time of 2 hours, 28 minutes and 40 seconds - at the time, the best finish by an American woman in 20 years.
American Shalane Flanagan and Kenya's Geoffrey Kamworor won women's and men's titles apiece at the 2017 New York Marathon on Sunday. "This is the moment I've dreamed of since I was a little girl".
On the men's side, Geoffrey Kamworwor was the victor in an unofficial 2:10:53, three years faster than Wilson Kipsang in a race that marked the 26th and final marathon as a professional for Meb Keflezighi, Now 42, the man whose bib says simply "Meb", won the NYC marathon in 2009 and the Boston Marathon in 2014.
But in the end it was Kamworor who won by three seconds in 2:10:53 with Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisa third in 2:11:32.
Kamworor returned to Berlin in 2013, where he once again settled third in 2:06:26, as Wilson Kipsang obliterated Makau's world record with new times of 2:03:23 followed Kipchoge in 2:04:05.
