Politico reported earlier that the firm's founder, Tony Podesta, announced he is stepping down from his firm because of the Mueller investigation during a firm-wide meeting Monday.

Podesta is handing over control of Podesta Group to CEO Kimberley Fritts, reported POLITICO.

"(Tony) was very magnanimous and said, 'This is an wonderful group of people, '" a Politico source said of Podesta's remarks. The document redacted the firms' names but they are reportedly the Podesta Group and Mercury LLC. The move comes after it was revealed last week Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been investigating him as part of the larger probe into the 2016 presidential election. Podesta said he "needs to fight this as an individual, but doesn't want the firm to fight it".

Fritts also addressed the gathering, telling staff that she is "thrilled at this opportunity" and that, "This is not about me, this is about y'all". The firm disclosed payments of $1.3 million for its Ukraine work.

In the indictment unsealed this morning, Manafort has been charged with violating FARA after failing to register as a foreign agent.

10-year-old takes parent's vehicle on a joyride
According to the Cleveland Police Department, the boy left his mother's home on Hadley Road in Cleveland around 9 a.m. Other motorists spotted him October 16 on Interstate 90 near West 117th Street after taking his mother's auto .

FARA, enacted in 1938, requires any Americans working with foreign governments, leaders or political groups to disclose their activity to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Podesta Group and Mercury claimed in lobbying disclosure reports that they represented a Brussels-based nonprofit, the European Center for a Modern Ukraine, that sought to help Ukraine improve its image in the West from 2012 to 2014.

After being introduced to the lobbying firms, the European nonprofit paid the Podesta Group $1.13 million between June 2012 and April 2014 to lobby Congress, the White House National Security Council, the State Department and other federal agencies, according to US lobbying records.

Between 2012 and 2014, the lobbying firms were paid more than $2 million from the accounts, prosecutors said.

"It is impossible to run a public affairs firm while you are under attack by Fox News and the right wing media", he told his former employees, according to a person familiar with his remarks. Podesta, who said the project was vetted by his firm's counsel, said he was unaware of any such disagreements.
