AB de Villiers of South Africa bats during the first T20I between South Africa & Bangladesh
David Miller described his innings as "pretty special" as he smashed the fastest global T20 century against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom on Sunday. "It was scratchy at the start of my innings, towards the end it was sweet", Miller said in a mid-innings interview.
Miller, who was dropped on zero, reached his ton off 35 balls, beating the previous best mark of 45 deliveries set by compatriot Richard Levi against New Zealand in 2012. "In the first ten balls I could have been out twice".
After the innings, Miller spoke to SuperSport and recalled his knock and said, "It's a really special feeling".
Two leg side flicks traveled over square leg, a slower ball was smashed over long-on and a full ball chipped over extra cover as the first five balls were hit for six. He despatched the first five balls from Saifuddin into the capacity crowd but could not get his bat under the sixth and had to settle for a single.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim dived to his right and appeared to have caught the ball but lost control as he landed on the ground.
He shared a 79-run fourth-wicket partnership off 41 balls with Hashim Amla, who made 85 off 51 balls with 11 fours and a six. Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, all the other bowlers went at more than 10 runs per over. "We need to learn a lot from this tour".
Incidentally the top three fastest centuries in T20Is are held by South Africans.
Bangladesh threatened to make full use of flawless batting conditions as they started with objective and were averaging more than 10 runs an over before wickets began to tumble and their run rate was pulled back.
