Kerala love jihad: Hadiya, confined to parents' home, claims she'll be 'killed anytime'
Kerala's State Women Commission on Saturday directed the Kottayam Superintendent of Police to inquire and submit a report on the Hadiya's present condition, a day after a video of the 24-year-old pleading to be "saved" from her father was released, reported news agency ANI. The Kerala High Court has annulled her marriage after her father told the court that Shafin Jahan has links with terror outfits and his daughter was forcibly converted to Islam.
Hadiya, originally Akhila Ashokan, is an Indian woman who was born Hindu but converted to Islam to marry her lover.
Meanwhile, Hadiya/Akhila Asokan stands by her statement that she was not a victim of love jihad, and has strongly denied all the statements given till date by her father regarding her conversion and marriage.
The Kerala High Court while hearing the Hadiya case, on October 10, observed that all inter-religious marriages can not be termed "love jihad". When I walk, he is pushing me and kicking me.
The brief video was taken on August 17 at the house of Hadiya's parents at Vaikom in Kottayam district. Hadiya's husband Shafin Jahan moved Supreme Court against Kerala High Court order. There are police officers stationed outside her house too. She reportedly has not been allowed to step out of her house ever since the high court gave her custody to her parents.
Here is the new video that was released on Thursday.
The Kerala government had earlier stated to the supreme court that an investigation by NIA was not needed in the case as the state police was efficient enough to carry out the whole inquiry.also government, however, had earlier said that it has no problem with the NIA probe.
