The National Park Service is proposing raising the price, per private vehicle, to $70 at 17 national parks, the website reports.

The proposal would increase the entrance fee to 17 national parks to $70 per vehicle, $50 per motorcycle, and $30 per person.

According to park service officials, 80 percent of fees stay in the originating parks, with leftover money going into a shared pot for parks that don't charge entrance fees.

Revenue would be used to restore and improve facilities, infrastructure and visitor services, with an emphasis on deferred maintenance projects.

If you've sat in a traffic jam while waiting to shun the congestion of city life during what was meant to be a quiet getaway at Rocky Mountain National Park, then it probably won't come as a shock to you that one of Colorado's most handsome places is seeing a lot of use.

Public comment is open until November 23 and you can submit your thoughts here.

"Parks that have been enjoying increased visitation would then potentially see a significant drop-off in visitors, which would then result in a decrease in entrance fees and then, the whole thing might actually backfire", she said.

With almost 5 million annual visits between them in 2016, Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks made the cut of most-visited parks.

Amazon Sees Surge in Sales Following Acquisition of Whole Foods
Amazon's $13.7 billion Whole Foods acquisition accounted for $1.3 billion of revenue with an operating income of $21 million. Management had guided for third-quarter operating income to be between a loss of $400 million and a gain of $300 million.

Park fees would almost triple under a proposal from the National Park Service.

"We need to have a vision to look at the future of our parks and take action in order to ensure that our grandkids' grandkids will have the same if not better experience than we have today", Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said in a statement. "Targeted fee increases at some of our most-visited parks will help ensure that they are protected and preserved in perpetuity and that visitors enjoy a worldclass experience that mirrors the wonderful destinations they are visiting".

While acknowledging the backlog in maintenance projects, Poliquin said he plans to discuss the matter with the park service in hopes it can find a solution that "will not disrupt the attraction to Acadia that the region relies on, and can ensure that ME families are able to still visit Acadia without a burdensome financial cost".

Zinke said in a statement. Even before then, in 2015, the parks were faced with major budgetary concerns, according to a report from Mother Jones, who wrote that it would cost the federal government $11.5 billion to fix numerous country's older public lands. Almost 6 million people visited the Grand Canyon previous year.

Moving forward, Pierno suggested that Congress should help shoulder the maintenance backlog, regarding the billions of dollars that many national parks need in repairs.

President Donald Trump announced plans to cut the park service's budget by 12.9 percent in 2017.

Acadia now charges $50 for its annual entrance pass fee. "The national parks offer SO MUCH MORE".

And, say if you're paying $70 to get into Rocky Mountain National Park, 80 percent of that will stay there and 20 percent will go to other national parks across country.
