Creeped out by Amazon Key? Here's how the in-home delivery service will work
On Oct. 25, Amazon proudly announced Amazon Key - a service in which participating Prime members give the company remote access to smart locks attached to their front doors, allowing Amazon to grant delivery people access to their homes.
Amazon officials must have guessed people might be apprehensive about letting strangers in when they're not home because the company is rolling out a bundle of security features with its new service.
"Amazon Key gives customers peace of mind knowing their orders have been safely delivered to their homes and are waiting for them when they walk through their doors", said Peter Larsen, Vice President of Delivery Technology, in today's announcement.
Once verified, the door is automatically unlocked and the Cloud Cam records the drop-off.
The set-up also allows users to let friends, family and other visitors - cleaners, pet sitters, dog walkers etc - into their homes when they are not there.
John Stamos gets engaged to girlfriend at Disneyland This will be the second marriage for Stamos, who was previously Wednesday to model-actress Rebecca Romijn from 1998 to 2004. Stamos' rep said he proposed by cutting together a film of some of the most romantic moments in Disney and Pixar animation.
"Amazon Key is perhaps the most outre example of this phenomenon yet", Emba wrote. Amazon offers the kit at a starting price of $249.99, with free installation. Would they really want to bring a lawsuit costing $50,000 to get in the courthouse door to sue the delivery person because they snooped in the house? By using these smart home devices, the customer can see the entire delivery process from start to end, beginning with a notification sent to their mobile device. Customers can either install the kit themselves or have a professional do so with no service fee.
Don't worry, though - you probably won't have to wait too long until Amazon is delivering your packages by drone.
Shoppers will then be able to choose in-home delivery as an option in the Amazon app. And like Walmart, Amazon has also safeguarded a customer's delivery.
"I think it's a good idea", she said.
According to a statement issued by Amazon, using the Amazon Key app, customers can track their delivery with real-time notifications, watch the delivery happening live or review a video of the delivery after it is complete. And if for some reason, something goes wrong-like your door won't lock or something else goes down-the delivery person is required to stand at the door while Amazon customer service is called.
