Wozniacki steamrolls World No.1 Halep

Halep defends her title of number 1 in Singapore

Caroline Garcia of France (Above) and Simona Halep of Romania (Below) during the WTA Finals tennis tournament in Singapore. The score has been hooked up to 2-2, before Wozniacki does not align ten straight games.

Halep faced six break points and lost only one when she conceded her serve with a double fault in the sixth game. Halep looked downright very bad in her last match, winning just 29 percent of her return points and 44 percent of her total service points.

Wozniacki proved a near faultless first set, making just two unforced errors, to win the opener 6-0 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

"There were so many ups-and-downs in this match, a little bit like the one we played in Beijing (where Garcia also won in three sets)". Halep is hoping to make it out of the round robin stages of the WTA Finals for the first time since 2014.

Garcia said the disappointment of losing the set was overwhelming.

"I must give her (Wozniacki) credit for the victory".

Frenchwoman Garcia recovered from her opening loss to rally past Svitolina with an epic 6-7 (7) 6-3 7-5 victory later in the day, a result that leaves the other three women in the group all with a chance of joining Wozniacki in the semis.

"[Wozniacki] played some great two matches".

Another forehand error handed Wozniacki a match point after a little more than an hour, which she duly converted with a forehand victor.

Both players were featured in 2017 Wimbledon for the first time. The most recent match was in this years Canadian Masters, a match Svitolina won in 14 games.

However, Halep quickly grew in confidence and she gained a decisive break in the ninth game of the match, thanks in part to two costly double faults from the French player, and secured the opening set with a precise backhand victor. I thought I played really well out there. Svitolina has been a shell of herself in her first two matches and may not be 100 percent healthy. It was fast. No one was expecting this kind of match today against Halep. All those things went wild once she put her feet on Asian soil. As a player who has the measure of this court, her mix of defence and attack stood her in good stead.
