Man arrested after cops mistook doughnut for meth gets $37500 from Orlando
A Florida man who was arrested in 2015 after police mistook doughnut glaze in his vehicle for methamphetamines has received a $37,500 (£28,269) settlement.
Rushing said he was pleased with the outcome and hopes he can get his record expunged. Even so, he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after the officer's roadside tests on the flakes were positive for an illegal substance.
"It's an incredible feeling to get arrested when you haven't done anything wrong", Rushing told WFTV when he filed the lawsuit in October 2016.
Orlando officers pulled Rushing over for a traffic violation, the Sentinel said. He was handcuffed, arrested, taken to the county jail, strip searched, and locked up for about 10 hours before being released on $2,500 bond.
He said he's been trying to start a security business, but to no avail. A subsequent test performed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement determined it was sugar from a Krispy Kreme doughnut.

"I haven't been able to work", Rushing told the paper. Following the arrest, Rushing sued the city of Orlando for this unnecessary harassment and false charges that were brought against him. Shelby Riggs-Hopkins, was given a written reprimand.
Rushing claims the problem is police are still using kits to test material at the roadside even though there are issues with such equipment. "I've never even smoked a cigarette before, let alone meth".
